England will look to regain some credibility lost during the Six Nations, but the Barbarians will be out to spoil their party on Sunday.
Eddie Jones’ men come off a disastrous Six Nations campaign, where they not only lost three games to rivals – some of whom were far below themselves – but they also crashed to finish fifth, one place above perennial wooden-spooners Italy. The Barbarians, on the other hand come off the form of their lives. That is because they simply can’t have a bad game, as their main purpose (unless Alan Jones is in charge), is not to win. Rather it’s about entertaining the people.
In a win-loss sense though, they are doing reasonably well, winning games against Ulster and Tonga last year, and competing with second-string Wallabies’ and All Blacks’ teams.
In the corresponding fixture last year, the Baa-Baas went down to the home team, as they meekly submitted 28-14, but expect better from this Harlem Globetrotter-like club.
England’s never-changing game plan is simple: to play their own structured way – forcing other teams to conform to that – but the Barbarians often don’t fall into that trap, the reason being that most, if not all, of their players are picked for their skill, and not for their workload.A couple of internationally big names have been added to the Baabaa’s squad, Tatafu Polota Nau, Finn Russell, Malakai Fekitoa and Greig Laidlaw, with 239 international caps between them, Pat Lam drawing players from nine different countries.
Bundee Ahki was expected to captain the side, but he, Charlie Piutau, and AJ MacGinty have all been ruled out, at the same time Loni Uhila enters as the traditional uncapped player.
Former NRL star, Semi Radradra will get his first taste of international rugby at centre, ahead of Fiji’s June Tests against Samoa, Georgia and Tonga.
Eddie Jones has named eight uncapped players for the friendly, while Mike Brown, Jonny May, George Ford, Ben Youngs, Joe Launchbury and Joe Marler anchor the squad with 330 games under their belts
Kyle Sinckler, Joe Launchbury, Chris Robshaw and Joe Marler are really the experience in the England forwards, coming up against a BaaBaa’s pack with a point to prove.
Keep an eye on the back rowers throughout the game, as Robshaw, Tom Curry and the uncapped Zach Mercer take on Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, Justin Tipuric and former Hurricane, Victor Vito.
It’s hard to see the Barbarians winning this game, however, expect them to push England all the way.CUW, Exactly mate, old Victor is one hell of a player and I for one was all sort of peed’ off when he left. he’s a wicked Number 8, no doubt that, and a top and popular guy also, Wellington through and through Victoria Uni’ Old Boy!
You’re bang when you mention Him as a top Number 8, he was in my opinion as good or better than Read before he went ~ How about some of those games he played for the Canes and All Blacks’, jeezuz; what a player! ~ It’s one hell of a sad state of affairs when all these top calibre players and Coaches buzz off to play and Coach, just because of the money, when you just look around at the top players up there you’d make another All Black team in them alone.
Now old Boydy’ from the Canes is heading out, only good thing is that there;s some top young Coaches and the plethora of current players always coming through! ~ The Blues are a worry!

Re VITO : it was reported that the NZ coaching team felt he was playing underweight. and wanted him to be more physical and powerpacked.
got to say he was never a Jerry Collins – despite the size.
i think his skills are more highlighted in France where lot of power forwards are there. even when he is not playing the commentators refer to ” pass like Vito ” – such is his reputation in Top 14.
i felt at the time Messam shud have gone and Vito shud have stayed.
re BOYD :problem will be – some players will follow him. happens a a lot if they can get a better financial deal.
not all will be successful but then the money i guess compensates for lack of game time.
last night in the PRO 14 final Johnny Mcnicholl scored a hatrick – and the commentary said he will be eligible for wales next season.
On the other side _ Leinster _ James Lowe was the spark though he scored only one try.
those two went head to head and it was a contest within a contest 😀

Yes 4th is stretching it…
But hooker, no. 8, 6, 13, right wing are a bit light, as is the subs bench bar halfback. We have some promise, but nothing confirmed in those poitions, or have injuries, i.e. at 2.

RA has contacted JSchmitt requesting him to select a mid week team for the first test against the WB’s, fearful of what a thrashing by Ireland will do for ticket sales, and questions that it may raise, that RA simply do not have answers for.

Eddie has once again shown his bias and a-hole side.
he has said Cipriani will play at 15 – because he must be good at 15 also. WTF?
many experts said he was the best 10 during Aviva season – but the favorite son Ford must be in the squad as the 10 and must play as the 10.
im sure Eddie will throw Cipriani under the train – send him in when the match is all but lost and then as 15 !!!
The teams:
England:
15 Elliot Daly, 14 Jonny May, 13 Henry Trinder, 12 Piers Francis, 11 Mike Brown, 10 George Ford (cc), 9 Ben Youngs,

Date: Sunday, May 27
Venue: Twickenham
Kick-off: 15:00 BST (14:00 GMT)
Referee: Andy Brace (Ireland)
Assistant referees: Marius Mitrea (Italy), Ben Whitehouse (Wales)
Television match offcial: Peter Fitzgibbon (Ireland)Elliot Daly will make his first start at full-back for England in Sunday's non-cap match against the Barbarians at Twickenham.
There are four uncapped players in the XV, with Henry Trinder at outside centre and Jack Singleton, Elliott Stooke and Zach Mercer in the forwards.
Regular full-back Mike Brown is on the wing, with George Ford and Chris Robshaw the co-captains.
"The match is a fantastic opportunity," said head coach Eddie Jones.
"We've always wanted to try Elliot at 15 and we also think (Mike) Browny can be an absolutely outstanding left winger for us."
Daly's outgoing Wasps team-mate Danny Cipriani is among the replacements, after being named in the squad for the first time under Jones.
Jones added: "If I wanted to make headlines [I would pick him to start], if I wanted to pick the best team then no [I won't]. He's in the 23 this week and he has a fantastic opportunity off the bench."
Scrum-half Dan Robson is also on the bench, along with fellow uncapped players hooker George McGuigan, prop Nick Schonert and utility forward Josh Beaumont.
"This is a good young squad and their work ethic has been outstanding over the last two weeks," Jones said.
"It is a great opportunity for them to show they deserve to wear the English rose, to show they can be in contention for the World Cup and a great opportunity for them to put us on the front foot ahead of the South Africa tour."
The Barbarians have named a strong squad for the Twickenham clash, with former England winger Chris Ashton and Scotland fly-half Finn Russell part of a star-laden backline.
"You never know what to expect from the Barbarians team," Jones added.
"We know they will be well coached by Pat Lam, we know they have got good individual players and some outstanding individual players, so we need to be up for the unexpected.
"We can't wait to get back to Twickenham and get on the front foot, please the fans and play some good rugby."
Sunday's match will be England's first game since news of defence coach Paul Gustard's upcoming move to Harlequins later this summer, and Jones said: "Our coaches have been approached consistently.
"I'm pleased for him, he wants to be a head coach and he's been deemed good enough so it's a great reward for him and his coaching.
"We are obviously disappointed from a team perspective, but then it creates another opportunity for us to bring in a coach that can build on the great work he has done."
Fly-half George Ford said: "Gussy is a world-class coach, his impact has been phenomenal and it's going to be a great miss for us.
"But we are proud for him. He'll be missed but it's not a bad thing to freshen things up sometimes, so it's exciting moving forward as well."
With eight uncapped players included in the match day squad, Ford says the new faces have brought lots of energy and have even had to be told to "taper down" during training sessions.
Ben Youngs returns to the starting line-up for the first time since England won away in Rome on the opening weekend of the Six Nations, and Ford says his Leicester team-mate's inclusion is a "massive bonus because of his international experience".
England side to play Barbarians: Elliot Daly (Wasps); Jonny May (Leicester), Henry Trinder (Gloucester), Piers Francis (Northampton), Mike Brown (Harlequins); George Ford (Leicester), Ben Youngs (Leicester); Joe Marler (Harlequins), Jack Singleton (Worcester), Kyle Sinckler (Harlequins), Elliott Stooke (Bath), Joe Launchbury (Wasps), Chris Robshaw (Harlequins), Tom Curry (Sale), Zach Mercer (Bath)
